Children’s Cancer Fundraising Hike Scheduled
Children’s Cancer Fundraising Hike Scheduled. The CureSearch Ultimate Hike is scheduled for 9/26/20 on the Foothills Trail traversing North and South Carolina. CureSearch raises funds for research to fight children’s cancer.
The Foothills Trail Ultimate Hike takes hikers across 28.3 miles of this North and South Carolina based trail. The landscape is diverse, ranging from high rocky outcrops with views to the distant horizon, to quiet forests in deep valleys carved by bold mountain streams. Wildlife sightings are common, and hikers will enjoy the challenge of this beautiful trail. The Foothills Trail hikes attract more hikers annually than any other, and the event is expected to sell out in 2020!
Smoky Mountain local hiker Frank Gioscia has been hiking for a cure for nearly a decade and has raised over $113,000. For three years Frank participated in the hike before a friends son was diagnosed with cancer which took his hikes to another level. Frank pledged the money he raised hiking to help his friends son Gavin. Gavin was diagnosed with cancer in 2011. Frank has hiked every trail in Great Smoky Mountain National Park multiple times and has earned the title, “900 Miler.”
“They let you hike for somebody who has cancer or who has passed away from cancer,” Frank said. “I adopted him (Gavin) to be the person I was hiking for.”
Gavin is now in his sixth year of remission but Frank has not let that slow him down. This years’ hike for the cure will be his tenth in support of CureSearch.
“I can get out there and just relax and enjoy it,” Frank said. “It’s great to get out there and about everything and enjoy God’s beauty. It’s the most thing I’ve ever done. It’s the best thing I have ever done. I’ll hike for anybody. I try to raise all the money I can for anybody.“
