Smoky Mountain Skunk Washing Competition
Smoky Mountain Skunk Washing Competition! Nothing smells like spring in the Smoky Mountains like the annual skunk washing competition! No-one needs a bath more than these little stinkers after three months of winter. Each year hundreds of contestants hold their noses, grab a bar of soap and get to work.
“This event has become so popular over the last twenty years that we have a difficult time rounding up enough of these lil’ stinkers for folks to wash,” said event coordinator G. Howie Schmells from the prestigious LePew Institute. “Skunks are known for their powerful stink produced in glands known as the Isles of Langerhan. When they let loose with that stink, watch out!”
Last years big winner decided to adopt his skunk. “My dog, Dinkums, didn’t know what to make of that darn thing. I believe he thought it was a cat until he got a big whiff. He doesn’t scare easy but he hid under the bed for an entire day. Now they are best friends and he rolls around in that stink all day long. I don’t wash the skunk anymore, we kinda got used to the smell. My kids get some funny looks about the smell at school, but everyone loves it when we bring the skunk to show and tell.”
